and choices to make themselves safe, healthy, and independent.

Everyone, including Deaf survivors, need a safe environment. Deaf Unity works with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other crimes. By providing support and resources to Deaf survivors, we are ensuring their safety and well-being. Our services are free and confidential. Through advocacy, we can provide hope to Deaf survivors who seek to escape from abuse.

What is Advocacy?

To advocate means to stand and give voice to Deaf people whose voices have been ignored or oppressed.

Deaf Unity provides:

  • Crisis intervention/counseling

  • Peer support/education

  • Legal support/accompaniment

  • Deaf empowerment

  • Financial information and referral

  • Shelter information and referral

  • Transportation assistance

  • Material assistance

  • Information and referral

  • Community education

Advocates works out the details of the plan and prepare for each step of the plan that will be taken with the survivor

Advocates consciously works to follow through the specific steps involved in the plan with the survivor

5. Analyze

Advocates evaluate the situation to develop a plan to explore possible sources of support and resources with the survivor

6. Reflect and Adapt

Advocates continuously reviews the plan to ensure needs are met with the survivor
